    gearbox problem, thoughts please

just had my alignment done and the guy told me he had problems with getting it into reverse and first. when i took it there it was fine but when i left it would not go into first as if there was something blocking the gate and same with reverse. this is the first problem i've had with the gearbox without a hint before hand.

Sounds like some ham fisted gorilla broke or loostened your shift linkages.

I agree. Have had this exact same thing happen before with a rod shift linkage after I took a car in for a roadworthy and someone with an IQ of less than five points clearly had issues finding reverse gear... It turned out they had literally bent the selector rod!

think we got it fixed, will find out on the way to work tomorrow. changed the gear oil with full syn. plus additive and adjusted the linkage arm ( at least i think that's what it was ) seems to be working now but then again, you never know.

probably just needs the shifter alignment to be adjusted a bit, maybe new bushes if the old ones are non existant. or just get used to it the way it is!
