I agree. Have had this exact same thing happen before with a rod shift linkage after I took a car in for a roadworthy and someone with an IQ of less than five points clearly had issues finding reverse gear... It turned out they had literally bent the selector rod!

Seems an ocurring trend.
Stu had a problem with some **** wrecking reverse too.
think we got it fixed, will find out on the way to work tomorrow. changed the gear oil with full syn. plus additive and adjusted the linkage arm ( at least i think that's what it was ) seems to be working now but then again, you never know.
most probably the linkages going south. I've always take to time explain to every mechanic abou the reverse selection, even then I still worry!
whilst on the subject of gear boxes..
i was driving the golf all day, and i noticed every now and then, when i chucked her in first it would actually go into 3rd.. it probs happened 2 times all day (so no major issue) but what could be the problem?
