    Removing front struts

So, I've been told to use a rattle gun to take off the top nut and to put back on. Is that the case? Or do I buy the tool from GAP so that I can torque 'em up?
While I'm doing the mount and bearing I may as well replace the struts. I like the price of the Bilstein Touring from GAP ($80) but I could buy a back set with what the postage will be. Anybody have a source here for struts? Cheapest here so far is $150 for sachs.

Give CamdenGTI a call, I remember Matt being able to bring Bilstein stuff in.

I use the rattle gun. I tighten it using the "medium" setting on my 2hp air compressor and this tightens it up and still allows it to be loosened later on.

a rattle gun would work wonders im sure, or if your lucky an alan key and like a spark plug socket thing might do the trick.

not sure if youll be able to get em much cheaper then that around here, not that I've looked

Thanks guys. Allen key was hard enough to find in 7mm. Hard pressed finding a 22mm spark plug socket too. I'm sure they're out there somewhere. I think the bilsteins will be too expensive here, compared to originals, but how much better would they be? I probably won't be able to tell. It's only the front end I'm doing.

I was told when doing my front shocks never to rattle gun the strut mount as you'll crush the bearing. My mechanic did, and ****ed them.. Cost me a new set fo mounts and a pain in the ass amount of time to remove them..

I think they only need 110nm from memory.

7mm drive and 22mm deep spanner. A must have for Mk3 owners who like to do some DIY. Would set you back about $50 for those tools from a good tool store.
