MK3 Power window problem (not the usual one)
Hi guys.
Recently, my power window regulator and motor housing went crunch. So I ordered a complete regulator and motor package off the internet, the problem was that only after it had arrived I realised on the motor, it didnt have the standard multi-pin plug that mine did, this new one only had the two + - pins and no module or anything. (this is the pic - inside the small black plug housing are the two pins)

heres the old one is here with the big multi-pin plug:

SO anyway, basically I don't really want to spend anymore money buying the proper replacement part if i can aviod it, and what I have done is this:
- Chopped out the old module/plug unit from the broken motor
- Soldered some wires to the + and - outputs of the old module, with plugs cimped on the other end which then plugged into the spade pins of the NEW motor.
- plugged everything in, new window and regulator etc all installed to test it...
Now, when I operate the window up and down it all works fine - BUT! when I hold the switch on (up or down, does the same thing) the window moves for about a second then the relay/module 'TICKS' and it stops moving until you re-press the switch.
So I can get the windows up and down fine but I need to click the switch about 5 times to get the window fully up or fully down!
So I am stumped and couldn't find any info on the internet after hours of searching..
Thanks guys!

Have you checked your fuses? the real big ones that sit above the relays in the fuse box. You will need ot pull the fuse / relay box out to access it. From memory, the top row will have thin relays (all green from mem) that look like massive fusues. The reason it could be cuting in and out like that is one of these relays acts as a circuit breaker for the power windows and central locking. From mem there is about 6 odd and it is the middle one. Could be short of some kind coming from the new motor or connection. The reaon it stops is cause the circuit breaker is kicking in and after a second odd it switches off.. Hope that helps... take care

Hi, I had a look just before and saw the thermo-fuse for all the windows but it seems fine? All the other windows work fine and it also works fine when i tested the wires straight from the plug to the motor (by passing the relay inside the module. If that makes sense) So i guess it's the dodgy-chopped out module that I tried to put together that's playing up? haha well does anyone know if there's and aftermarket module/control unit on the market? And does anyone know why there is even mk3 window motors for sale that don't have the build in module/control unit? I'm hoping that there's a way around this without having to buy a new motor when the one I have is fine but I am stumped to be honest and can't find much info to help me online thus far!
Thanks for your help Tubbs.
Cheers!
