I did once mount a pod inside the standard airbox. That was about as useless as it gets.

wasn't the whole debat that taking out the air box and replacing it with a pod filter was good for all of two seconds before the heat soak killed it?

way around it was smaller battery and routing your intake from behind the left fog light?

so the extra pipe would be on the "unfiltered" (bottom) of the air box.

Don't know if it is at all feasible or if there is any point to it as you'd need an idea of whether the SEAT intake alone is a restriction. From things I've read on here before, it's always been open to debate. I've seen on some of the OS forums where they've just used a hole saw and drilled more holes in the box.

But if you drill the airbox it will draw hot underbonnet air. But the stock air feed (replaced by the seat intake) works a treat as a secondary intake under the airbox. Pulls air from underneath the car. I dont think you will get nasties going up through there. It would be like shooting a basketball from 300 metres and getting it swish in the basket.

a FMIC would fix this wouldnt it? i mean aslong as the charge is cooled as much as possible after the turbo what difference would hot air going into the turbo be as cold air from a cold air induction would just be heated by the turbo?

no idea... but you'ld get that result with or without the the pod filter.
just the pod filter has been discussed before and the last time it come out that pod filter inplace of your airbox made no gain and was just a waste of money... I'd back that up but way to lazy to go find the old threads

I think the ultimate question is: Is the Seat intake with box still too restrictive? If not, why bother modifying?

I wouldn't be worried about stones, etc, but under the car there is a lot more water and dust than on the front grill (normal inlet position).

did the "seat PD160 intake" mod yesterday, and made some vag-com logging.
    here's a before(1)/after(2) chart:
