DSG in the GOLF R

This is obviously care of APR Australia.
This shows the 200kw (non-Australian) version of the Golf R, compared to the APR Stage I ECU on the same Golf R. Figures are at the flywheel and using what equates to 98 Octane fuel.

You can see that the power isn't really dropping off yet at 6500rpm. However, it's not a large peak there either. Torque has already dropped off significantly though. So you probably would be better off changing up rather than holding the revs at the redline anyway.

Yeah I was more concerned as you mention, about longer corners where you want to hold revs.. so manual mode is fine. Thats good to know !!

Should be quicker than the 5.7 they quote to a 100. And if you bothered doing the intercooler, Down pipe and Air intake.. should be alright.

This will be a car I dont replace the whole exhaust on (as I normally do). Apparently, If you isolate the part of the exhaust which is bottlenecking the flow, you might find you only need to change the DP, for instance.

I know on the XR6 Turbo for instance, the whole exhaust has been proven to be great and only needed the rear muffler changed for bang/buck. Apparently the rest of the exhaust flow well. Ill have to do soome research on the golf situation.

I cant be bothered upping the turbo on this one.. So ill probably just do the above (cooler, air, tune, DP).. which I am not sure what that would net.. but would be alright.

I'd love to know what a nicely worn in motor with 10-15000KMs on it makes..

The re-tunes usually up the boost anyway i believe. Don't really know of anyone with boost controllers on VAG cars..

You seem to get most of the gains by replacing the downpipe/cat (as it's the most restrictive part), the rest of the exhaust is mainly for noise/looks.

Why do you want to hold revs on longer corners? One of the benefits of the DSG is the ability to change gears mid corner without upsetting the car like you would in a manual.

Why bother with the intercooler $$$$, downpipe $$$ and instake $$ when it will make little difference to the power but will make it obvious to Volkswagen that the car is modified and they may look further when warranty claims are made.

How do you think tuners make their power gains? They up fuel delivery and boost amongst others. The intercooler, dp and intake will make bugger all for a much bigger outlay.

Probably the same as motor with 3,000km.

Well, if you were to also put the APR Intercooler, Carbonio Intake, APR Downpipe and APR Stage II software on there, you'd probably have about 255kW and 450Nm at the flywheel (I'm not sure if Guy_H has any graphs specifically with those updates on an R or S3 etc, I can only find details on the Stage II software with the DP). Stage II doesn't necessarily give a huge increase in peak numbers. It seems to flatten and widen the powerband and make it sound full of awesome

Agree, as you have mentioned before it's not just the the peak numbers that are important but moreso the extra responsiveness (and does sound good).

Cause I would just like to. Maybe so I can stay on constant revs without needing to upshift .

Thats something you have to consider for yourself when you want to spend on mods.

They make power on VW's very similar to all the cars I have modded. Up boost, tune, air intake and Intercooler, fuel pump if needed. And if its a good base car like an STI or Skyline, these cars can make fantastic power gains form the mods alone.

Not true, a motors sweet spot, is not 3000kms. You shoulld know that If your going to write a post pretty much dedicated to attacking what I want to do/being a smart ass.
