    + 1

Mine had to be turned on in VCDS, and will only work if the lights are set to Auto.

    It's not confusing....

You read your owners manual, and you follow the instructions (as people have indicated with the high beam lever).

If you don't like that method of operation, you can get VCDS (or someone with VCDS) to change the operation so that it just happens every time that you turn off your car if you're lights are in auto (and then have every 2nd person with a crap car at the shops/work tell you that you've left your lights on).

    Disagree

After I turned off the car at night the lights used stay on for 30's (lights set to auto and not flicking the lights before I got out of the car)

    Now it doesnt work

The only thing I've changed is setting the locks to auto close, that's it

So why was it working before ?

Are you not confusing it with leaving home lights. Coming home without flicking the lights is not enabled from the factory and settings in vcds dont magically change.

I wish i kept the thread but i trawled through vortex to find how to do it on vcds!

I prefer the need to flick the lights as it can be very annoying having someone call out and stop you to tell you your lights are on. If it's dark and I need to see in front of the car for whatever reason, a quick flick and there is light.

I was a bit mean to one person when I had my Mk5 (which didn't require the flick) and when told about lights being on, I just replied "I did not!". They turned around and the lights were off.

that's the current behaviour in the octavia as well - no need to flick the high beam. just have to make sure the light switch is set to 'auto', and the CH option is checked or turned on (maxidot -> setup -> lights and visibility). The default duration is set to 10 seconds, but this can be altered as well.
the same can be done for Leaving Home function.
looks like the convenience module its different to that on the golfs.

    this is from the manual.....

    Switching on Coming Home Function
    – The light switch is in the position automatic driving lamp control ("AUTO") and the low beam illuminates.
    – Switch off the ignition.
    – After opening the driver's door, the function Coming Home is switched on.
    – Close all the doors and the boot lid and lock the vehicle. After a short time, switch all lights off.

    Coming Home Function
The lights go out 10 seconds after closing all the doors and the boot lid.
If a door or the boot lid remains open, the lights go out 60 seconds after switching off the ignition.
The function Coming Home is controlled with the light sensor in the mount of the interior rear mirror. If the light intensity is higher than the set value of the light sensor, the Coming Home Function is not switched on after switching off the ignition.
You can change the illumination period for the Coming Home Function by means of the information display.
