A few potential problems with 118 TSI DSG

I have made about 9.000km so far and have a few minor issues to be addressed at the first service (15k).

1. Whenever I press the accelerator, I can hear a short and sharp ziiing sound, like a metal hitting metal. I can't hear this inside the car, but if I open the window it's there.

2. The air-con makes a squealing sound and it is really getting loud, must be a belt (?) if I turn a/c off -it's quiet as a sleeping beauty.

3. This one is confusing - traction control ... when it's wet and I push a little harder from standing, the TC light on the dash goes on and the car goes nice and smooth. If I press accelerator really hard, the engine makes reeeeally loud clunking noise, like really really reeeeealy loud, like the engine wants to break off the car. I was thinking this is TC doing heavy work, but when I turn off the ESP, the exactly same thing happens.

Normally, any other car would simply spin the front wheels all the way to the embarrassment, but this one clunks it into the despair :-( Is this normal?

That certainly doesn't sound normal or healthy. I'd suggest a trip to your servicing dealer ASAP.

Yes. It is called "axle tramp". It only happens when you take off hard enough to spin the wheels (easily done in the wet).

Golfs (and many other VAG cars) have relatively soft engine and gearbox mounts to better absorb vibration, but this softness also allows them to move around a lot when under pressure from taking off hard. If traction is a bit uneven (which it usually is) this "give" allows the whole engine/gearbox unit to rotate back and forth somewhat violently (it sounds like the engine is about to fall out in bad cases).

You have some options:

1 Ignore it (not a very good idea)

2 Adjust your driving style to avoid this happening (ie take off a bit more gently and smoothly). This is what your dealer is likely to tell you to do (and maybe they will throw in a lecture about "car abuse" as well ;) )

3 Depending on the tyres you currently have you can may find some improvement by fitting tyres with more traction.

4 Fit harder engine/gearbox mounts (but this may increase NVH). See "dog bone"

5 Change your suspension (springs, shocks) and possibly some bushes.

6 Fit an LSD

7 Buy an AWD car (Golf R ?)

Is it possible that this is the supercharger once engaged? I know mine sounds like a 'ziiing' :confused:

Assuming your talking about whenever pressing the accelerator when driving (and not when in neutral or when you have your keys in your pocket doing the placebo thing) I would say this probably normal.
A side effect of the DSG7 having separate oil circuits & only a fraction of the mechatronic oil as does the DSG6 is markedly less sound dampening. So you can at times hear the hydraulic actuators selecting a gear or clutch with windows open.
