Looking at Golf R and APR Stage 1

Recently sold my Subaru which was putting out a healty 200kw atw, preparation to by the new 2011 STi. However I can not see the extra 10K in value over the new Golf R and I am pretty close to placing an order.

I have been onto the goapr site and looked at their stage one ecu upgrade which looks like my cup of tea to bring the Golf up to 239kw and 410nm. Anyone had much experience with APR?

Still looking but am pretty impressed with the DSG. However I am a die hard manual driver. While I have been looking I have driven the 2011 STi, EVO X Duel Clutch, Audi A4 2.0t quattro (Twin Clutch) and a turbo ford territory. Feeling like a test pilot at the moment. None have stacked up the the power my subaru put down, but want to get away from a load modified car.

No there are none available in TAS at this time. Looking at heading to Melbourne next week some time, talked to the dealer at Campbellwell and they have both. Just when I though I was over the tuning bug (Apart from a simple ECU upgrade) and then I was this APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles.

Well Andrew Robinson is your man for APR in Tasmania, he's a top bloke and a member on here too (gtimk5). I've got a few APR bits on my mk4 and they are all top quality items, I doubt you'd be disappointed with any of their offerings. Welcome to the forums and look forward to seeing you in Hobart with an R!

Fasturabus, I am pretty much in the same situation as you (except Evo instead of STI), with pretty much the same sentiment about the newer models of Evo and STI compared with the R. I am also a bit of a manual die-hard so I'm pretty sure that is the way I will be going too but will probably drive both if I get the opportunity.

I have been trying (with little luck) to find a dealer with a car to test drive so maybe I will head down to Camberwell VW in the next day or so - thanks for the tip

Talked to the guys from APR this morning and am now having second thoughts as they have brought out their turbo upgrade and map for the A4 Quattro, which is the first car I was looking at. Decisions decisions!

Hmmm. Looks like tomorrow might be the day. Golf R, Blue, Leather, Upgraded Sound, Sun Roof, Adaptive Chassis Control and Media Interface. Then a trip to the local APR dealer. Only thing is I have to wait until January.

Hey. Did you get to drive the manual yet? If so what did you think and what will you be going manual or DSG? I'm having trouble deciding....
