still no solution for my premium bluetooth problem so i'm thinking of alternatives.

has anyone tried installing any of these units into a vw? are they canbus compatible? can it go into my T5.2 (2010) and work with MFD, MFW and reverse cams (thinking of installing this also) i'm running with kenwood because they use navi by Garmin...which i currently use and am very happy with.

You need to replace the premioum bluetooth kit with one of the new bluetooth kits which do support the iPhone. It's a simple pull out and replace:

Do you have a red or a white MFD ? There are different models.

the dealer is contacting vw aust today to discuss a solution for the premium bluetooth, i only have the rcd310 not the rns510.
these kenwood units seem to have better features IMO and appear to be simpler for updating Gps data and POI's from garmin (i already have lifetime updates for my current garmin GPS) plus they have bluetooth which is compatible with my iphone already and bluetooth streaming etc plus some of kenwoods other models i have seen like these work with the VW MFW and MFD but in GTi's...just not sure on these specific models.

White mfd, dealer called yesterday.... Long story short is a have to pay $800 for new standard bluetooth kit and around $300 for install.... not happy.

So I am seriously thinking of one of these kenwood units. Anyone know a good place to source them?

My suggestion would be to buy a new bluetooth unit from Ebay and then have it installed by an independant (e.g. Derek from European Autotech).

You're right from the perspective of maps upgrade, BT and that the screen in Kenwood can be tilted for better viewing in T5 dashboard, Kenwood is better suited and it should fully integrate with the steering wheel controls, as well as it will be much cheaper to add on the reverse camera. However it's only my opinion and I'm not an expert on the car audio.

We have a Pioneer AVIC FB20T in our van, we don't have steering wheel controls but I am led to believe it can work with them if we get them. There is no MFD integration though so it's all on the Pioneer screen.

We have Reversing camera which is brilliant and bluetooth works with the iPhone 4 nicely. There are a few foibles of the system we are not 100% happy with, but it's a great unit for a lot less than the RNS

Yeah the more I hear about the oem units I wonder why everyone has a hard on for them... I have always been a fan of aftermarket audio.
Car makers do exactly that... Make cars, leave the audio for the experts.
