my last car was a MY08 subaru liberty GT spec B and it freaked me out when the battery started to go. it would start shuting things down. first the aux power outputs then sat nav followed by radio and then the climate control would go as the volts droped. once it turned of the climate control screen but the A/C was still going and i couldnt shut it off untill i stoped the car.

This happened to someone else recently in VIC, heaps of faults and the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree.. Well below 12 volts.

Off topic, but recently had a similar experience. Just received new vcds cable and playing around with it unknowingly put it into transport mode. After auto scan had no interior lights, no radio, and no working key fob. Every scan I did threw up new errors. Thankfully, an email to Ross Tech soon had me sorted.

Yes, that's what it was. Fine this morning. Except the RNS510 won't play CD/DVD's. It loads them and reads the album etc but won't play.

    It's a H61 3970 model. I'll try the latest firmware.

    They're commercial CD's & DVD's.

Battery might be on the way out. $293 for a battery from Skoda. $159, 179, 196 for a cheapo, Alco or Century.

I would go with the BOSCH battery at the moment, however $293 for the battery from Skoda is not that bad, as long as it is VARTA, just make sure it's a fresh battery (not being on the shelf for a year or two).

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is exactly why it's worth every cent to buy a real VCDS cable.

And it's worth noting that if you buy one second hand, it will cost another $99 to obtain this service.

Just an update on this. Went to the local Bosch battery dealer thinking they had a way to test a battery better than I can. Merely tested the voltage (which tells you bugger all). Completely unhelpful - I think they expected me to buy a battery on a hunch. Grouchy as hell too - the usual thing you get at these places.

Anyway I just left it and it seems fine with the original battery. Must just have been a bit low when I did the RNS510 firmware upgrade and having the ignition on for that long drains the battery quite a bit.
