9W7 with RNS but red MFD how to pair phone?

Hi Guys....I've tried trawling through the 60 odd pages on blue tooth but gave up......There is also a guy from a post last year that did what I'm thinking of but unable to get hold of him...

OK, I've now upgraded my 2008 Jetta to RNS510 and turned off BAP in 37 nav and its given me full function with the high line red dash display, all good so far....

I'm thinking about rigging up a 9W7 bluetooth control module just using the wiring diagrams and get the feeds and can bus etc that I need, that's not a issue, I have at the moment just a NOKIA bluetooth installed so can use the microphone etc from that ....

What I'm wanting to know before I start ripping the old unit out is....The BT module and RNS will talk fine and I can use the RNS screen for operation etc BUT how would you pair your phone to start with??? I'm asking as a fellow member said he had done this to a 2008 Tiguan and had no issues as he didn't mind not having the dash display or steering wheel controls as just used the touch screen on the Nav....But how was the phone paired to start with??? I tried on a car with it all installed and there is no function on the head unit to pair only via the steering wheel controls and MFD.....

Ideas? VCDS to pair ? ......

I think you should just be able to find the 9W7 with your phone... either that or you could install an autopolar BT unit.

This unit is a protocol converter from BAP to DDP to display newer BT units on the old red MFD. It also fixes the battery drain issue without having to update the gateway unit.

Kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

Thanks for the link...Umm I did try doing a search with my phone (galaxy s3) that I know does work with these systems in a car that has RNS with white display and it found nothing unless I searched via the white dash display...I was kinda wishing I could just search via phone but it just didn't find anything...

Yeah sounds like the 9w7 has to be put into search/connection mode for it to pair a phone.

Can you force it into pairing mode by pressing and holding the phone button on your RNS?

I know some BT units also allow connection in the first minute or so of being turned on so you may be able to pair straight after you have turned the ignition on.

    Worth a try....

You can also set the pin with vcds. Adaptation channel 135 from memory.

So you have the full height red MFD?

If so I think your best bet is to use a FIS-link box then you get full integration.

I have this on my passat. When you first turn on the car, the VW phone is discoverable. When you try to connect the passcode is "0000". After that, it just automatically connects.
