lol yeah, I showed Maca where I pulled the splash guard off the front left wheel arch and a mouse fell out along with a mountain of dirt and leaves, probably its home. Only had time to clean the one guard today, will have to buy four stands so that we can prop it up to clean the others, change the brakes and wheels etc.

Today put in some grommets to cover the rear wiper and aerial holes.
Cut out and treated the rusted area in the engine bay.
    Cleaned the engine bay.
    Checked compression, all seemed ok.
Checked spark plugs, need replacing, suggestions? Something from GAP maybe?
Cleaned rear interior more, so much effort.

Power seems to die after 4.5k rpm, so will have to see if the spark plugs or something is affecting that. We haven't noticed anything obviously wrong in the engine bay yet either, like leaks or anything.

Spark plug, Bosch 4477, Platinum +4.
They seem to light the fire.

Ok sounds good, I'll add them to the list for our first GAP order.

    Pics for clicks.

my 2c on top of the advice from pete :bleed the brakes, use a decent fluid such as Castrol preformance its good and not too expensive. While you are there put in, at the very least, some fresh standard brake pads. If you can scrape the money together a set of decent brake pads such as Ferodo ds 2500's
And pull all the weight you can from the car, I'm sure you will! My race car is on a perpetual diet.
But the best thing you can do to get speed is drive the car, seat time is the key to going faster.

Should of got a excel and joined the Excel cup!

Still a mk2 would be sooo much fun to lap around in. As people say, Brake flush, race seat (honestly, its night and day), harness (I've got one spare if your interested, 4pt 2.5"), some rubber and you should be out at lakeside/qr for your first laps.
Think about a rollcage too, paul butler makes all the excel series ones for 500 and they are awesome. stiffens the car right up and added safety, worth the money IMO.

Let me know if u wanna have a walk through for the general stuff we did to get our car race prepped.
All the best with your project, and I hope to see you at some track attack sprints

Another MK2 being taken care of And it looks identical to mine.
I didn't realise you live in Brissie, nice to know there's another MK2 not to far away.
Assuming this has a standard Digi 2 1.8L in it?

    I'll be watching this thread!

    Yeah standard engine.

I've got an order in on GAP for some basic replacement parts to get the engine tuned up and replace some bits and pieces, they are taking their sweet time with the order though (18 days and counting). I've been busy with my new job, working full time, and the rain means motivation is low for getting cracking on the car. Holidays from the 24th though, so I'll pick up a few things from supercheap and have a crack at it until I go back to work on the 10th.

Well I picked up this bad boy for $600, so same price as an excel but so much better! I don't really want to race or anything, just have a side project going.

I've got a list in mind of what needs to happen next (service, brakes, suspension, tyres, windscreen, rego), and I was considering a cage, just have to see how the budget goes.

I'll update when my parts come! Or even before then with my goodies from supercheap, there should be a sale on Boxing Day.

Last time that happened to me, it turned out they we're waiting for me to reply to an email about postage (an email I never got, so I didn't reply!)
Shot them and email and had my stuff within a week

PS have they taken the money off your credit card yet? If not it hasn't been sent.

I checked the credit card bill and no, they haven't charged me yet.

edit: I've just sent a friendly reminder email.
