Cleaned the car up a bit over the weekend.
The passenger floor is pretty bad, i'm going to have to replace most of it.
Welded up a few of the trim holes.
Those tar mats came off pretty easily with a heat gun.

I'm a bit concerned with the passenger side sill channel by the base of the A pillar, I'm going to have to make that very strong again because a leg of the cage will end up there somewhere.

rusty. yum.
Got your work cut out, that's for sure.
With that corner, I'm sure a nice little bit of over engineering will do the trick! :D
Thats not so bad Pete, I have seen worse.
You`ll be right.
Yeah, Driver's side is OK that'll clean up with sandblasting.
Passenger side will come up ok too, just needs some new metal.
That seam accross the firewall looks worse than it is. It's perforated in a couple of spots but mostly it's surface stuff that will clean up OK.
I'll be seam welding the car so it's got to go to the sand blasters in anyway to chase out all the seam sealer. I'll get them to hit the rust hard.
Need to make some progress on the beetle though so this might take a back seat for a bit. I'm allowing a year to prep it, the beetle's been going for 2 years now:duh:. It's about time I focused on getting the beetle back on it's wheels. (The beetle is a 59 and it has less rust than this '76 Golf!)

Awesome work Pete, can't wait to see you tear it up :D
sounds like a good plan pete, certainly look forward to seeing your hadiwork in years to come.
yeah they used very good steel in the old beetles , ive got a few at my house to ;)
cheers brenton
Picked up a donor car tonight, a '76 2 door. It has all the bits I'm missing and is too rusty to fix. Pics tomorrow.
