    Wakefield Park 27th Aug

Had a private track day booked at Wakefield Park on Monday 27th Aug. This was my first day out with the Rear Sway bar. Was a great day for me, taking 2 seconds from my previous best of 1:20. I started the day with a 1:21 and by the last session I was really pushing it and did 1:18.1.

I also tested out a new lap timing system. Not sure if there are that many track day addicts here, but some of you find it useful.

Using my Nokia N95 (which runs S60 3rd Edition operating system), a Bluetooth GPS & a software download called RaceChrono. I uses the GPS to plot your times and speeds at certain points along the track. You need to first add the Start/Finish line so that it registers a complete lap, you can also add lines for sectors in different parts of the track. In comparison to a stop watch this was spot on for times, I'd be interested to see the comparo to paid for timing systems at the track.

    Some screenshots:

You can see it saves all your sessions and can view the graphs later to analyse your speeds at diff points, and compare different lap times to see where your gaining or losing speed.

Great times for the (basically stock) Pog, FLOODY. But from now on it becomes a bit more expensive (chip, brakes, suspension, tyres....)

I've decided against a chip. I want to see what kind of track times I can get with a really decent suspension, brakes and tyres setup. Will look at either semi's or coilovers before our next day late in the year.

That RaceChrono looks the goods... I have a bluetooth GPS... problem is I have a Dopod 838 Pro (or a HP iPaq), so it's a no go, wonder if there is something similar for the Pocket PC.

I have software for speed which also logs position so I could map it myself, although it would be somewhat time consuming.

Hoping to get to Wakefield sometime in the near future myself so something like this would be tops.

hey Floody - good job & times for a stock polo!

I like that Download on the phone.

to help us sort our cars up here we just purchased one of the racelogic V Boxes that the magazines use - its pretty neat, as it has maps of the tracks downloaded & shows track lines & data at all different points. Its real handy for us to quantify 0-100 times & then changes in suspension etc....

http://www.performancebox.co.uk/ - will be testing it at QLD raceway next Wednesday

Was mostly my mates that own MINI's. Other then my GTI, there was an Evo9. First time he had it there last Sept it was stock and he was doing 1:12's, it's now race prepped and doing 1:09's My best mate gave it a go with his stock Ford XR6, did a 1:19ish.

I didn't get a ride in the Evo, but I did get a ride in a Targa Rally MINI. Wow thats a bumpy ride, but a hella sweeet lap. He normally does 1:13's but could only manage 1:14's; something bout the track being a little slower then norm. Brake points are much later then most cars, the suspension setup was so good that the brakes were just upgraded pads, oil and lines.

Looks the goods Guy, would be keen to see the lap times from that box and the phone sw. Only thing done to the Polo is RSB on medium. Starting to get a good feel for wakefield.
