    injectors clogged up here?

something worn/damaged along those lines, cause of continual usage of crappy fuel perhaps?

    Just spit balling...

always been run on premium fuel. Had been sitting under a tree for almost 12 months though prior to me getting it running again. It did have one of those emergency fuel caps though so fuel contamination could be an issue i guess.

    yeah its still causing issue!
We are suspecting some sort of electrical problem somewhere.
    problem is as follows.

on cold start the spark is too advanced. So the engine spins backwards!
If you retard the timing it starts fine but then you need to set the timing back to where it should be for the car to run properly. Once you let it run for 1 minute. It will start fine each time until you let the car get completely cold again. Then to get it started again you need to retard the timing. Whilst the car is timed right it runs really well with heaps of grunt

What we have checked or swapped out for known working parts are listed below

timing has been checked and quadruple checked
    ecu
    dizzy/hall sender
entire throttle body and all the sensors that hang off it and the injector
    temp sensor

One thing i havent tried swapping out yet is the coilpack. Is it possible for one of those to play funny buggers but only when the car is cold or under starting load? Im really starting to expect some sort of weird electrical gremlin!

car is great as a day to day driver just you need to keep a 13m spanner in the car to get her started hehe. hard to spend a lot of time working on it whilst i have so much else going on!
