Most likely the regulator on a mk3, they're pieces of poo.
New ones can be had from the dealer for just over $200 i think, or you could source one from the uk for about $120.

spoke to my mechanic i need a motor and switch for drivers side rear window so far everybody he has tried wants obscene amounts of money![]()
Is he 100% sure it's those? Reason I ask is because they can often be misdiagnosed.
First of all, when you flick the switch to go up or down, can you hear anything at all coming from the window? If you can then both the switch and the motor work. If you can't hear anything, then either the switch, motor, or both won't work.
If you can hear something, then the best thing to do is to take the door card off the door and actually have a look at the window regulator. If it's broken, you'll most likely find little plastic bits sitting at the bottom of the inside of the door, or you'll find misguided wires, plastic guides that have snapped off the rails, etc. They're stupid, flimsy designs and Volkswagen didn't ever do a recall for metal replacements unfortunately.

my drivers side is tempermental , it doesnt go down in wet cool weather, but works fine in dry sunny. weird you can hear the motor whine down an up per usual but it just seems like its not catching. funny thing

There are parts available in Australia, at least while people support the locals...
I always check the wiring inside the rubber tube from the body to the door, the fronts are very prone to breaking.
It does sound as if your regulator is broken though...

I sell the regulators and motors complete for $150.
Easier than trying to swop things onto secondhand regulators.
