So, basically its to ensure that the seats actually stay attached to the car?

lol k. My seats are basically falling apart...
How hard was it to find seats that have a subframe to fit the golf? I'm assuming they are different for each make/model of car...
I hate my seats SO much. they have NO padding left in them (you can't literally poke someone through the back) and the side foam bits are tearing off...
I don't really want to spend thousands on seats that are only for looks (I only have a 1.8L - it's not going to go fast...) so anything is good. I might definately have to look into this more...
Unfortunately only the more expensive brands have tailor made sub frames available like Cobra and Recaro, possibly Sparco. I pulled my seat out yesterday to see if there was any way I could mod the existing sub frame to take the new seats and all I can say that is the weirdest friggin seat mounting setup I have ever seen in my life (and I've owned escorts)!! Unless you're a skilled metal fabber and own MIG welding equipment you stand no chance of modding the existing setup. The Cobra seats will owe me roughly $1600-$1700 all up so it depends on how much you're willing to spend. The Recaro setup would be even more expensive so I'm guessing my setup would probably be one of if not THE cheapest around with tailor made sub frames.
I can totally empathise with you on hating the seats, I'm in the same boat, mine really are pieces of crap also, sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and do itOf course once you have good seats you could always do a VR6 conversion
