My first white parts 2.0 mk3 had the 6 cd stacker in the rear boot as well as genuine rear speakers that were properly wired in. I'll try and grab some photos of them tomorrow but they are just super basic 4" speakers.

Yeah the rear door speakers were an option in the Mk3s. I was sorely tempted to go down to my VW dealer after I took delivery of my then new 97 CL to purchase the door speaker kit that was featured in the VW Golf accessories brochure that I picked up at the 15,000km servicing. Never got around to it because I was not sure how to take apart the door trims (this was back in 98 before the days of internet forums) and whether the cabling was in place. Another accessory that I always wanted was the OEM fog lights.
The rear pillar speakers are actually really rare, saw them for about $300 once, didn't really understand the appeal though. My rear doors have speakers but it looks like the cabling is weirdly aftermarket, unless that's how it was done from factory? Speakers were OEM 1995 dated so it must be.
I also ran into a strange problem where it seems the rear speakers don't sound as loud the front ones, but easily fixed setting the fader to bias towards the rear.
@heysie
Received the sensor today, thanks.
wow good info guys!
yeah i've got those rear pillar speakers but they sound really bad and are also a lot softer than the fronts but not sure if that has something to do with the aftermarket sony headunit that the PO installed. I have checked the fader and it is balanced so maybe a speaker impedance thing that may have been catered for by the stock head unit?
But the oem speakers are pretty terrible anyway so i'm trying to look for the cheapest way to get "bearable" sound quality.
As long as the radio doesn't sound like vibrating cardboard i'd be happy lol
Fogs should have been standard on vr6. Bastards!
The OEM speakers were pretty good back in the day, but 20 years of exposure to harsh Australian UV tends to make them sound like loose cardboard when you crank them.
Part of the reason I always wanted the rear speaker was because the standard OEM radio/cassette head unit has a front/rear fader but with no rear speakers you get no sound when you fade it to the rear ;)
stefcio007 - you might find that the rear door speakers in your car are OEM ones but fitted by the dealer who may have found that the wiring was not in place so improvised. If my memory serves me correctly, the OEM rear speaker kit only included the speakers and did not include wiring.
from memory when i took off the rear door card, i didn't see any speaker wiring there too so maybe they weren't even run if the speakers weren't optioned.
this may match what stefcio007 is seeing in that the speaker cables were added later.
Replaced my camshaft sensor and no go. The intermittent went away and now it's just "Open or Short to B+".
Can't really find anything, I think the timing must be just out and it's throwing the sensor off.
What should I do?
Any tips on how to check the sensor and wiring?
Edit; same code still shows even when unplugged. Now think it's wiring.
Used middle pin as ground. Other pin, shows ~11V, other one shows ~0.8V.
Is this normal?
No idea stephan but hoping someone else can help you.
I still have the open circuit on 4th solinoid reading with the VR6 auto. Also hoping it's wiring but not sure where to start before I call an auto electrician.
Can anyone advise how I'd test the wiring?
