I am seriously considering this one http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...pp-111669.html
My car has the same port design as 2015 cars with OBD2, but it sure isn't compatible with any generic scanner. OBDeleven even implies that by only supporting cars from 1996 onwards. That's when VW supposedly started following the same communication standard as everybody else. 1995/1996 was the transition year and so VW fitted the new connector to some cars but did not upgrade the electronics inside.
My car pings super bad if I use anything less that 95. Ill only use 98 unless I'm flat broke and then I'll put a bit of 95 in

My car is in the same boat, compliance date is 96, build date is 95.
I bought a cable that looks like this and it worked for me. http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...3/_12JPG-1.jpg
Cool, thanks for that. Seen those on ebay, I will grab one to give it a go.
I'm not sure what you mean? I've been putting Shell Vortex 98 for a really long time (previously used BP's 98 ), just wondering if United 98 petrol is similar in terms of quality to Shell's.
I have always found I got better fuel economy using the Caltex Vortex 98 in the 1.8l CL. Even if I don't get the 4c/L off with the Shell V-Power at Coles Express, it worked out more cost effective to pay more per litre but the extra mileage meant that I saved myself a couple of dollars a tank.
I have heard that the BP 98 is the best fuel of the lot but without a BP close by I do usually fill up with it.
