    Mk3 Jetta's available?

No doubt this a fair noobish question, but were Mk3 Jetta's ever available in Oz? I'm wondering this because I'm getting my car sometime soon, and am really wanting an mk3 Jetta over a golf, but haven't found any in the trading post/carsales/etc, is the Jetta just named the Vento over here? If not; what's the difference between the Mk3 Vento & the Mk3 Jetta?

    Thanks in advance!

Yep, the figure was 320 something! I've seen one for sale locally and it was going for $4,500! They're not desirable here in Australia so that would make your cause easier!

The Vento has slight differences to the American Jetta, but these are mainly cosmetic. I've heard that the bumpers are different - larger swage line dividing the top of the bumper to the rest of it, 4 slats in the radiator opening as opposed to 6, no sidemarker light (just the front indicators), and a slightly different lip.

But yeah, they're virtually the same, both basically a Golf with a boot (even the front ends are interchangeable).

If you're not desperate for a car, look around! There's no easy way around it, but if you're lucky, one will pop up.

I've seen a few on carsales before, but they are wuite rare indeed. I see one parked at a house near my street every now and then, a Gl VR6 vento, in black, most likely Auto I'd say.

Yeah, i was riding home from some raging house party last night *sarcasm*, and up near the station i see the token Mk3 from end and think 'golf', and then upon further inspection i see an extended rear end, four doors, etc. and think 'jetta', but it was a vento.

sweet looking cars, but without a doubt first thing on the "to do" list would be to remove the hideous 'vento' badge, and replace it.
