Golf Mk3 DIGITAL R.P.M Display on dash

I just unlocked a new (well its factory)secret on my car THE DIGITAL RPM GAUGE where it shows trip/total km.
    Well the steps are:
NOT RECOMMENDED WHILE DRIVING DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES ONLY!!!

    ignition OFF
press and HOLD the reset button on LEFT of cluster
    ignition ON
    wait 3 Seconds
    Ignition OFF
And Turn back ON quickly DO NOT START ENGINE
And you should see 1 and then 4 numbers mine is (3764) yours could be different.
Then press through and you will have 8 options to choose from .
(not sure what they all are )
the one we want is NO 7 .
so when you get to 6 press and hold button and it will move to 7 .and then 0 which is your rpm .
and your DONE start engine and enjoy .
NOTE : when you turn off the ignition after starting the car the rpm resets so you have to do the steps again . oh and you can have you cluster lights ON while doing the steps. ENJOY

I personally haven't ever tried it but have read about heaps of people doing it. If your into digital gauges and have an obd2 mk3 have you checked out the scangauge, ultragauge or other obd2 readers. I'm thinking of buying a scangauge 2 soon.

It definitely worked in my old vr6, thought it was pretty cool when I found out about it, although its fairly useless. Still, I'd do it every now and then. Think it's only vr6's that it works for though, my 1.8 now doesnt have a mfd at all. Is one of the things I miss about the old car, watching oil temps etc was very usefull. Not sure if the 2.0's have it but I have my doubts.

It also shows you the realtime fuel level (as it's sloshing around in the tank) without smoothing (to keep the needle from moving around all over the gauge) when you have this activated - watch it as you drive around and it goes up and down all over the place.
