    Questions about Replacing Front Seats

So im after some older style Recaros for the MkII.

In a perfect world i would get some from the UK straight out of a MkII and stick them in however isnt really practical at the moment.

So my questions are, could i put some older style Recaros from anoter model car and modify them to fit on the bases i currently have, i have access to a welder and he said he would happy to do it for me but am wondering about how much something like this for example (Out of a BMW 3 Series) would take to get first of all fitted and secondly engineered to get the thing registered.

(This is the style of recaro i am after although would be retrimming them anyway)

Any pointers from people who have done it before (i know your out there!) would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Simon

OK so have done a bit of research on this and looks like i will be getting some Recaro Bases/Runners from the distributor over here (Approx $375 a pop) and i have talked to the nice people at the distributors and they have said that although Recaro bases are generic to fit Recaro seats I would need to be careful getting older style BMW/VW/Ford Recaros as they often have their own bases etc

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Mods...Im wondering if this thread may be better suited elsewhere as its not really Mk2 specific now I Think about it?

    Cheers,

    Simon

This is an interesting one, something I've thought about too. I know plenty of people have put various coradoba, golf 3 etc etc seats into mk 1 golfs, which I'm pretty sure (most of them) wouldn't fit straight in.

I always wondered if you could just weld the base on the seat onto the "runner" frame of the original seat??

Well I assume (and I AM assuming from what ive found out) that the recaro runners bolt into the floor pan and probably I would need to get rid of the runners that are currently welded to the floorpan...

if you're retrimming them, who will know they're non-stock?
