hmmm let us know what it is when you find the problem.
i just picked up another mk2 that needed a new main pump, replaced it and it ran fine for half an hour then splutted to a stop.
now it does what yours is doing, starts, runs for a second or 2 and carks it???

Well guys,
I have got the bugger running. I pulled off the plug for the dreaded blue coolant sensor and Bingo she runs! But i only replaced it 6 months ago....So i had not even bothered with it thinking it would be ok being 6 months into it's service. Well there you go....There must be a moral in this saga somewhere. By the way, took it for a bit of a thrashing to celebrate and got a defect notice from the Filth!!! so now i'm back off the road again until i pay the Gov't some more money to poke and prod my car over the pits looking for more **** that may or not be wrong with it!! God is unkind this year!!

What was the defect for? I now have a spare blue sensor in the glove box they are so unreliable!
