If it's just a one off coding change, it is usually more cost effective to find someone nearby who can help out.

Hi all,
I'm after some advice regarding VAGCOM and software. All my previous projects/mods have been mechanical and only required some hand tools and elbow grease. With my new car (R36 wagon) I want to do things like DRL's and LED tail light mods which I believe are going to require some "coding".
Can anyone point me in the right direction? What is the best hardware/software to use? Where to get it? Or is the cost going to be too high for a few small projects? Would it be better to just ask someone here to assist as/when needed?
Thanks in advance!

Domatron: Hi. Not sure what particular aspect of VAGCOM you want to know. If it's a matter of wanting to diagnose faults in a VW, or if you are wanting to turn-on/turn-off programmable features in the car, then I suggest that you consider a VCDS cable which is manufactured by Ross Tech (USA). There are clones of these cables on eBay, but they are rubbish- get the genuine item! The genuine cables aren't cheap, but they are powerful tools.
If the cost is prohibitive, or if you only want to make a few changes to your car, there are lots of forum colleagues willing to help -out (see the thread HERE)
Cheers
Don
PS: Here's a video about these cables

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
Awesome thanks for the advice guys!!
