It is your responsibility when driving other cars to abide by the rules whether you drive by your habits, good or bad. Better check whatever car you intend to buy because they all have to comply under the same ADR rule
That advice is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. When the authorities have devices out there to ping you for a few km's over the speed limit, consumers paying good money for a new car is only right to expect an accurate speedometer in their vehicle.

If everyone drove to the speed on the speedo NO ONE would ever get a ticket so your argument is void

Would you prefer the blinker stalk to be on the right as well?

It's just one of the little nuances between Japanese and European design philosophies.

Sure would! I swap between them quite a lot.
And what a funny way to spell 'nuisances'.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm in and out of different cars all the time.

I acutally prefer the blinkers on the left.

The ADR rules since 2006 state that Speedos may read fast by up to 10% + - 4% so they can read up to 114kph at 100kph and still be legal. They must not read LESS than actual speed

Just because you are going faster doesnt allow more cars on the road. Speed limit in the USA is a lot higher and so are the traffic jams
So ADRs are typical nanny state rules for people lke you. With current computers it is very easy to get car speedos perfect, ever heard of GPS.

If every car wasnt held up by slow moving VWs with incorrect speedos then of course we would have less crowded roads, just do the basic math. If you spend less time on the road, then the roads are less crowded.

As for comparing US crowded roads to Australia, i assume this was a joke or something as just doesnt make sense.

Despite the haters, i stand by my original comments

So you think its only VW's. If so you are sadly misinformed. Every car on the road since 2006 must have a speedo that reads more than what you are actually doing.. They all do in varying amounts.
Even if you had one dead on when your tyres wore down it would then read incorrectly. They are set to allow for different tyre sizes as you will see if you look on your tyre placard, and will vary in accuracy depending on which size you have..
The reference to USA was because you seem to think going faster is better. Well it is till you get to where the high speed ends and everyone bunches up and with more traffic on the road the bigger the jams. Been there seen that.

Actually if you have factory Navigation there is a way to get a true readout of your speed but with your attitude will leave you to find out how.

Also bare in mind, some markets require the use of winter tyres by law during the colder months. These often have vastly different outer rolling diamters to the same size all-weather tyre.

But hey, car manufacturers should focus more on a small handful of individuals, rather than catering for the vast majority of markets and rulesets shouldn't they?
