Drool........ My new best friend. Fantastic to see.
So many overwhelming thoughts, so little left over brain power to translate them into words.

But the main thing would be it sets it off from the other Golf range and would be a more individual thing for all gti owners.

I will get to drive it, but seeing as we've only had it for 3 days neither of us have had too much time behind the wheel as yet.

I reckon you should run it in by coming down to Melbourne for the weekend! Be good to meet you.
So, how does the German built GTI feel compared to the South African ones that you no doubt drove earlier??
It looks sweet as minigolf! You must be proud!

To be honest our test drive of Mk5s consisted of one pretty tame effort from the local dealer that lasted about 10 minutes. And I had one other drive similarly lame due to unfamiliar roads in Sydney.

But I guess in ownng a Mk4 previously and seeing all the positive press we knew we were always going to be on a good thing. I have to say, while this car is a definite improvement over our old Mk4 GTI, there is still quite a familiar feel about it which is kind of good. We always say we should never have sold our Mk4, but I'm glad we did, because we may never have bought the Mk5.

So, in saying all that I can't really comment on the differences between SAf and German built GTIs. Although ours does have some minor rear alignment issues on the rear hatch that seems pretty common on almost all Mk5s.

We've driven up to Sydney and back already and have about 870kms on the car. I reckon we might do a another 300km or so drive over this coming weekend too. There might be a bit of a road trip to visit my mum in Adelaide around March next year. I'm thinking of visiting her in between the GP and kickoff for the 2007 AFL season.

    Cheers Liam
