Common rail is still a little new, but the god news for you is that Gale Banks, the guru in my recent diesel tuning book reckons mechanical injection can be boosted about 30%, whereas common rail is more like 60%!!

Makes me almost want to wait for a common rail GT TDI!

Your Jeep should have common rail injection system.

TDI is VW's marketing name for there electronically controlled diesels..... regardless of the injection system used. it was incepted to distinguish them from the IDI (indirect injection) prechamber type diesels with fully mechanical injection systems.

TDI means something like "Turbocharged Direct Injection" and has been used to badge vw's with common rail, pump-duse and electronic contralled mechanical injection systems (all direct injection) since 1994.

    I remember debating this before!

I just spent some time on the Jeep Australia site, and whilst the Patriot and Compass models just list a CRD diesel option with no real technical specs, if you go to Wrangler or Cherokee, both expand on the CRD diesel, and actually list common rail (CRD), and I can't see why your model wouldn't in fact be common rail as well.

That being the case, you have limited chip options in such a new engine, if any here in Oz, at this early stage.

I'd be interested in a tune for the diesel Tiguans - 103kw seems a bit light-on for a 1650kg car, especially one that may well need to dig through sand occasionally.

The 125kw TDI engine would seem to be a better choice ...
