Got mine done at 8000k but was 12 months old at the time.
Never noticed the reflections and would usually be no different to any other car with metal inserts.
Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas!
I bought a new Passat diesel wagon in October. I am a bit surprised that I do not need to have the first service on this car (oil change etc) until 15000k. This seems a lot of kays for a FIRST service on a new car. I questioned the dealer and they assured me that this is indeed the case. I have done 4000k and the oil on the dipstick is black!
Would appreciate any thoughts.
BTW I love the car and continue to have my expectations exceeded, except for one thing - the metallic inserts on the dash and centre console can occasionally reflect bright sunlight into the driver's eyes. This has happened only once in 3 months but it was annoying at the time.
Cheers

Welcome.
The oil being black is perfectly normal for a diesel. Diesel engines will dirty the oil with soot within 1-2000km depending on the usage.
Read your service manual and you will see that the 15000km srvice interval is also normal. Dont put too much creed in the dealerships advice - if you search around the forums youwill soon realise that the dealers give out a lot of bad information.
The best advice I can give you is to do a good read of the fuels and lubricants and diesels sections - you should find some good info about owning a VW diesel.

Thanks all. I feel reassured. Totally agree with the comments re dealership advice.
yes my first service from 0 kays was at 15000km with a very black oil. The reflection is normal also..it was annoying at first but learnt to live with it by using sunnys.![]()
I guess I would also point out that I dont see any problem if you want to change the oil sooner yourself. Personally I do it every 7500km, but thats another story really (there have been threads on that!).
I change the oil that often because of my own experiences with diesels and the way I drive.... I wouldnt let it concern you.
