Second hand Passat TDI or FSI (2.0T)?

    Hi everyone,

I'm after a second hand Passat 2006 onward

Two models caught my attention TDI 103kw and FSI 2.0T 147kw

There are plenty of information on TDI and V6 FSI
But I can't find much info regarding the FSI 2.0T model
It's like as if nobody owns one...

    Is FSI 2.0T any good?
anybody know the real world fuel consumtion on this thing? (there was only one case in the existing thread...)
any known problems for the particular model?

Sorry to ask so many questions but please help me join ze Das Auto club...

if you are interested in a v6 there is a very tidy example at summit holden in elsternwick- black sedan for $32k ( with 32klm i think).

they just dropped the price from 35k.

cant recall the year but it looks brand new.

i pass it on my walk every evening.....

    worth a look?

    Out of budget.

V6 would be nice but it's most certainly out of my budget in terms of running cost
by the looks of it on the forum it's a drinker and a picky one at that (98ron)

What I'd like to know is if 2.0T FSI is a reasonable drinker in the real world, hopefully under 10l/100km
103kw TDI is nice but it's slow and expensive to buy initially though it might be cheaper to run and
125kw TDI might be the best of both worlds but it's also out of my budget...

Redbook says my 103kw Tdi should get 6.6l/100km combined. My long term average is closer to 7.5l/100km (75% city driving/25% freeways) with a best of 5.8l/100km and worst around 9l/100km.

Likewise Redbook says the 2.0T should get 8.7l/100km combined... which to me indicates around 10l/100km in the city and 7's on the highway.

    Thanks for the quick reply,
10l/100km was my expectation as well but yeah I was expecting to see more TFSI owners then this
there seems to be only handful of them on this forum maybe that's a bad indication?

Any way since you own TDI 103kw what do you think of the off the line performance from traffic light?
I don't know why it takes TDI 10 seconds to reach 100kmh with so much torque
is it like massive surge to 80kmh and runs out of puff kind of thing? which I wouldn't mind to be honest.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
My MY07 TDI 103KW is three years old today (I have purchased an Extended Warranty) and over that time my average fuel consumption is 6.33 L/100KM (my records, not the MFD). I am retired and so seldom drive during peak hours.
As for the FSI 2.0T: VW recommend 98RON petrol for it as well as the V6. It is only the MY10.5 petrol engines (1.8 TSI 4-cylinder and the V6s) for which VW recommend 95RON.
I do find that off-the-line performance can be a bit scary - for a couple of seconds little happens, then it is as though an after-burner has been turned on. I have not noticed that it "runs out of puff kind of thing" at 80kph. I hope that someone with a FSI 2.0T will tell us whether it suffers from the dreaded turbo-lag.

I have a V6 Highline and after 7 months of ownership it is running at 10.1l per 100km. I do mostly city driving and like to play. What about the servicing cost differences between the petrol and deisel? I know the rego will be higher cause its a six, but the fuel costs may be better than you thought.

As the others have pointed out, the tdi is slow off the line. Once you are up to 2500rpm in 1st gear, the boost comes in with a rush and you are away - there is no lag from that point on to 110km/h+.

Hi, I just bought a MY08 FSI 2.0T a couple of weeks ago. All i can say is that its a great car to drive!
The fuel consumption is no bad, 7.8L/100km when driving on high way.
    And city driving is about 10 - 12 liter/100km.

    Congrats, first of all.
May I ask how much you paid for it and what sort of Ks it had done?
Don't have to answer me if you don't feel comfortable.

10~12L/100k sounds kinda scary... even for City driving by the way.
