    Handbrake sensor failed

Hi guys. Tomorrow I'm planning on hooking up my vagcom to my dads passat. I think his sensor for the handbrake has failed as it beeps while driving trying to warn that it is being applied when it's clearly not. Gets very annoying while in the car as it will just keep beeping and beeping forever!

Wondering if I will be able to turn that sensor off via my vcds cable. If so does anyone know the steps I need to make it happen?

    It's a 2002 v6 passat.

    Cheers

Wouldn't it be more sensible to try and fix the sensor? Cure the disease rather than treat the symptoms? I have no idea how the sensor works, but presumably it's a microswitch attached to the handbrake lever. Given the age of the car, it's possible that the switch has worn out or become fouled over time.

When my dad takes it in for the next service he can speak to them to figure out the cost to fix it. For now we just want to mute the sensor as its not really needed. If it can't be done he will have to get it replaced obviously

Ok we have worked out the answer for anyone that comes across this problem in the future:

When you get a handbrake warning in your dash, it could possibly be your brake fluid. My dad had it topped up and the problem is now gone!

    Hope that helps
