Just gave a VW dealer here a call - MY09 R36 has NO changes, only the standard models have the new OIS and a few very minor cosmetic changes.

l sat in a passat r36 my08 and it only had the push button 250w monochrome screen (blue/black). My understanding is the new standard stereo is now full color touch screen for the 2009 spec r36.
Are we talking about the RNS510 unit? If so, they only come in colour/touch screen?

Is the one that was in the R36 (definitely MY08, as it was registered over a month ago) and it was full colour & touchscreen.
I am not talking about the rns510 just the standard unit.
Ah, alright. Well, like I said - the guy at VW when I rang said there were absolutely no changes to the R36, only the standard Diesels and Petrols.
I do see the unit you mean though - http://www.volkswagen.com.au/vwcms_p...0017.Image.jpg
Much much nicer looking.
The head unit he is talking about is the RCD510. It is now the standard unit in all Passats, check the website, Passats have just been updated. There are many other little things that have been updated, especially with the V6, now called the Highline.
I stand corrected. Looks like the VW guy was wrong.
Just had a look at the tech specs PDF and it lists the RCD510 as standard on all models including the R36. Now one has to decide whether it's worth waiting 2-3 months for that![]()
Just took delivery of my r36 yesterday after waiting 5 months.
Worth the wait as it seems it be the MY09 (it has the RCD510)
Build date on the car is July-08

Ordered my R36 Wagon with sunroof and auto tailgate 2 weeks ago. I have a 5 month wait... I think it is going to kill me.
I was told by the dealer that the head unit is the touch screen and so looks exactly the same as those optioned with the sat nav.
This means the R36 also has the optical parking system (as confirmed by the passat spec sheet) on the head unit linked to the parking sensors. So you can tell visually how close you are to objects. Of course the R36 does not have the park assist which actually does the steering for you.
This is my first VW and I am pretty sure it will be one of the longest 5 months of my life. Especially since I am driving a Corolla until the R36 arrives...![]()
