My Tiguan has arrived and this is my experience so far

Have to get out onto the open road at night to give it a proper test. Still feel the headlights are slightly brighter than mine, even parked in the driveway.

I really noticed how good LED headlights are when shifting my old Kruger with halogens tonight. I thought I only had the parkers on cause the yellow glow just wasn’t bright enough.

As as for the Allspace, really enjoying the torque in the 162TSI. Still getting used to the throttle sensitivity, and haven’t quite found the right seating position. I have the seat about a third of the way up in lift as I feel the dash and wheel are high when the seat is set lower.

All the bloody beeping with sensors and door ajar and car not in park are doing my head in. Have to get used to thatrims are going to be easy to scratch, they are flush with the tyres. :(

The last thing for now is the R seats have a high edge - super comfy when driving, but getting out they dig in a bit to your thighs...

So a few owners have reported a slight clunk from their Tiguans, I somewhat have that same light clunk - although it's only from the RHS and only when I enter a driveway where the RHS wheel hits it first.

I reported this to the Service department at VW when I brought our Tiguan in for it's 3000km courtesy check. They tried to replicated it but of course "didn't hear it" but went on to tighten up the subframe and a few things here and there. All I can imagine they did was pop it up on the hoist and hit every nut/bolt with a impact wrench (I would have done the same thing, but it's a new car under warranty so not getting my hands dirty).

Anyhow, the service manager did say the car is settling in, so give it a another 5000km or so and monitor to see if the noise is there.

I also did ask if I could bring my own filters and oil for the service and they said that's fine they will just deduct the oil/filter off the capped price servicing total - which is pretty good, so when it's due for service the Tiggy is definitely getting Liquimoly instead of the Castrol Edge stuff (which is more than enough for a road car, but I am planning to take it to the track a few times as well for fun).

Interesting observation. I have noticed a similar “Clunk” or squeak from the suspension on the RHS. Our car has done about 18,000k and is 1 year and 10 months old. Only noticed in the last 4 weeks.

This only developed recently and only occurs when turning left into our driveway.

After 5 weeks of ownership I have been generally happy with my new Tig.
The 162 has good punch, but would love there to be a setting between normal and sport - Sport holds onto the gears for too long and normal requires too much depressing of the right foot to get moving.
Comfort setting on DCC is pretty good for day-to-day driving
Most other things have been good, but still trying to find the best seating position... too many options I think.

I've been driving my 162TSI Sportline full-time for the last month. Here's my thoughts on what works/doesn't work for me and what I find annoying.

Firstly I have to say I quite like it even in stock form. My wife didn't want to hand over the keys and I understand why. It's a nice place to sit. The panoramic sunroof is great on sunny spring days. It's pleasant to drive on the highway and after a long journey I'm not totally exhausted. In comparison to the Scirocco it's a much more relaxing car to drive on long drives.

The 162TSI has got decent pulling power on the highway for overtaking. Off the line "D" is a bit doughy. You really need to bump it into "S" if you need to get going / want the car to respond with a level of urgency. But then "S" mode hangs onto the gears a bit long for stop/start city traffic and this gets a bit annoying. So I mainly leave it in "S" and hit the cruise button as soon as I'm up to speed which helps with shifting into higher gear. So it's a bit of a work-around but mostly works OK.

A couple of things that I found a little annoying. The fact that the Haldex engages at low speeds and locks up the rear wheels causing the rear tyres to scrub is a mild concern (more details here). Stop/start is just plain annoying as it often cuts out just when you least want it to like stopping at a Stop sign and then have to restart almost straight away. The nag screen on the head unit that comes on every time you drive and won't go away until you clear it.

I'd have to say the seats in the Sportsline are not quite as supportive as the Sports cloth seats in the old 155TSI Gen 1 Tig. I find I still slide around in the Sportline seats as the side bolsters are too low and the seat too flat. But that's just mildly annoying when driving a bit harder. For general day to day use they're fine.

Adaptive Cruise works well, however it's default setting is 3 bars and I find in city traffic that's just too far. So I end up cycling through every time I start the car to set it to 1 or 2 bars which is a bit annoying. Also it does tend to cut in/hang onto cars longer than I'd like but I think that's pretty standard for adaptive cruise control systems (my previous car did this also but perhaps not quite as much).

Adaptive dampers are good - usually leave it in the middle setting as comfort is a bit too soft around corners and sport does let more of the bumps/uneven road surface through.

I find the R-line seats are well bolstered but just make getting out a little uncomfortable

Its a shame many settings default back to factory, but I guess VW lawyers are just covering their asses

With the R-line 20” rims I find comfort is great for day to day driving and jump straight to sport for a bit of fun

You can set this in the settings as last set parameter or something like that and it will always start as you left it, no need to adjust every time.

Many of the annoying things can be deactivated using obd11

Stop start, startup nag, acc distance default -> remember last setting

On mine I also had it remember auto highbeam setting.

The only thing I couldn’t get the car to remember sports and eco gear modes.
