Oh, I'm just getting started my friend!
Got onto RedBook and generated a Valuation Certificate for my MY16 140TDI Highline Sedan with R-Line Pack and Luxury Pack and 18,000 kms on it. Trade-In values are as follows:
As New: $38,550
Very Good: $37,850
Good: $37,200
Average: $35,750
Fair: $35,250
Poor: $34,250
So, at $34,000 my dealer is offering me a trade in value less than what RedBook considers suitable for a Passat in poor condition.
I can assure you my Passat is far from being in poor condition. Exact opposite, actually.
Going through the receipts of the 5 previous Passats from the same dealership and I can see substantial discounts.
For example, with my current Passat there was a discount of $3,158 off the retail price.
Be very interesting to see the dealer's response to all this information.

Do differently negotiate .... I normaly work out what I want and give it to the dealer and told them, work towards that deal and you have my deposit. neven have them to work out how much the trade is and how much you are paying the new car. Just tell them if they can get you want you want, they have a deal, otherwise there are always a dealer out there want the deal.
I have just traded my MY15 Tiguan 155 Rline with sunroof for $33k with 24k on the oclock, just over 20months old. (new is around $47.5 from memory)
