I'm sure they would be different as the R is a bit louder?
If so what is the difference?
Wanting to get a touch more sound (enjoy the brrrpps) but not up for spending big $

a few differences actually, including the routing (so an R exhaust wont fit on a GTI and vice versa)
Putting a 3" dump pipe on releases a bit more sound usually, as does getting a cat back. But they'd be your only two options unfortunately, but either mod isn't that pricey depending on brand and where you take to get it installed (or do it yourself!)

If youre after just a touch more noise and louder shifts as Josh says a downpipe is possibly the way to go. Prices start from around $650 + installation so depends on your budget.
I have seen a few people just have the rear muffler removed and replaced with an aftermarket one although this has the potential to drone and has very little potential for performance gain
Cool so a downpipe is an option.
Would a good exhaust shop do one custom or best to get a branded one?

No point messing about with custom. Most places charge around $1000 to fab one up and install.
Do you have a tune yet? We are running a special on a GIAC tune + downpipe for $1699.

We can also do the DP just on its own for $650 and the quality is nicer than most exhaust places will do.
