118TSI Tiggy with stage 1 APR - wheel spin in wet

Hi,

With all the rain we've had in Sydney lately I've noticed that my FWD 118 TSI Tiguan is very difficult to get off the line without wheel spin, unless I suddenly age 30 years!
My wife has a 'normal' Tiguan and that seems to be fine.

Is it just the extra power, or does the traction control need re-calibrating?
I noticed we have different tyres as well, though I forgot to jot down makes.
Anyone noticed a similar thing or have an opinion on good tyres for FWD tiggy?

Extra power in FWD will lead to this, happens a lot in the GTI's and Polo's.

Also in the wet it is more likely to happen.

That's just part of the fun of a powerful FWD!

Nothing you can really do about it, start slow and increase power once in 2nd gear. Just don't turn TCS off or you'll change lanes even with the steering wheel kept straight.

Should have swapped it for the wife's AWD tiggy and put the tune on that one...

Hers is also 118TSI FWD unfortunately. If there is ever a next Tiguan I would go with AWD and the 2.0 litre engine.

Going back to the tyres. I've got Pirellis and the wife has Hankooks, both new from same dealer at same time from similar shipments. Anyone got an opinion on which gives better grip? Would swapping be worth a try? The Hankooks seem to be a bit quieter.

I think it's just something you'll need to learn to live with, and to drive around the problem. If you want quick launches you need all wheel drive...

Tuned diesels are even worse for fwd wheelspin with their high torque characteristics.

My 125TDI Octavia spins the wheels in the dry, let alone the wet!!

Take off in first, get quick enough you can drive in 2nd gear then change and floor it. Thats how I do it.
