There would be ****e loads of people, including me, that would prefer manual over DSG in their TDI's

I don't believe that is true, I'm sure there are plenty of us who enjoy driving a manual and would continue to do so given the opportunity.

    2. Who uses the handbrake for hill starts anyway?
Those of us who were taught how to execute a perfect hill start, that's who. I'd like to thank my driving instructor for that.

I certainly never did. It's clumsy and time consuming and anyone with a bit of co-ordination shouldn't need to.
It also takes coordination to execute a proper hill-start, it's not rocket science, it's just technique.

btw The hill-holder / auto hold and E brake function in my new Golf is fantastic. Both are set to be on all the time. I just need to be careful now when getting back into other manual cars to keep my foot on the brake on hills and to release the handbrake when starting.
See there's the thing, I never have my foot on the brake pedal on hills. For me it's handbrake all the way. Handbrakes have been around a lot longer than EPBs have.

I would have preffered a manual in our 110TDI, I was initally very put off with the DSG, however after driving it I dont mind it so much, its not a manual, but its alot better than a torque coverter auto.

    Questions guys,

    1. my car (MK7 103TSI) sometimes got vibrate/rattling sound I press the accelerator, sounds very farmiliar to a diesel engine, feels like there are some loose parts in the engine/gearbox making clatter/fluttering sound.

Also when the car is stationary at D gear, when i left the break, then the engine RPM goes up and it moves slowly, the sound is louder.

Not sure if its wastegate rattle, only happens when driving, never happened in N gear.

had an inspection for today said the under tray is loose but didnt help much.

    2. my car is only 6 months old and air con already have the socks smell, they've cleaned the filter today as well but seems didnt help as well, said full air con service @ $249...

Please help! Thanks in advance! Much appreciated!!!

Cannot agree more! I actually miss a proper handbrake when doing hill-starts. Auto-stop is fine, but a handbrake would be much better for my personal taste and I also thank my instructor for that : )

    !!!
It's impossible to clean the cabin filter if it has the stinky smell - you might get temporary releif if you wash & dry it in Eucalyptus wool mix.

You are better off just buying a replacement filter. They are <$20 on ebay.

Do you drive around with AC on all the time & do you have it on fresh or recirc?

There are a few threads in the forum about what to do to fix & reduce the problem.

^ I always turn off the a/c and move from recirc to fresh air to reduce moisture build up in the last 1-2 minutes before I reach my destination. 2 yrs of GTI ownership and no smelly cabin or a/c

thats what i started to do!
to avoid condensation which causes bacteria and mould build up...

If I was using AC last trip, the next time it will have the smell..
If I was using air intake only, the next time it will be fine.

We had a bucket load of rain last week and the wipers are crap. Went around to my service department to see if they would replace them(car has done 2400ks) and they replaced them for free no questions asked.

That is service! New ones seem good.
