Is this result consistent with owner and forum member expectation? It wasn't the outcome I expected.

^ Car advice I think did a track test and the R creamed the STI. Having said that who buys an R with the primary aim to track it? its the go to all round performance hatch, manic as required, or just as readily take the kids to soccer practice safe and sound...

Fifth Gear also hated the GTI. Can't always be unanimous

When a car and platform are as good as the Mk7 I think you can be unanimous.

Let's face it. Fifth Gear isn't exactly scintillating television most of the time - its production values are on a par with an STI interior.

There's no doubt on track the STI is still a weapon, but the R kills it everywhere else exactly as Andrew put it.

    GFB DV+ T9359 Diverter Valve for Mk7 Golf R

Does anyone have any first hand experience to the benefit of replacing their stock diverter valve on a Mk7 R with no ECU or other turbo mods? Here's the link to the product: DV+ Performance Diverter Range : DV+ T9359 (Suits VW Mk7 Golf R and Audi 8V S3)

Track work was a big criteria for me when I bought my car late last year. I was set on the sti until I drove it. Grip and handling is epic but it just didn't feel fast. I then went to look at the Renault rs265 and it was certainly more dynamic and felt proper fast. Then thought I better drive one of these R's I had heard about and after a 30 min drive through the gold coast hinterland went back to vw dealer and signed on the dotted line. I drove all 3 effectively back to back on the same day and I can say without doubt the R was better in all aspects. More fun, more engaging & just felt fast, planted, and capable to just carve up a twisty or straight road. Big thing I noted with the sti was it just felt a little gutless in straight line grunt. Love my R

In the "best drivers car award" on Carsales a manual GTI set faster lap times than an STI in the wet (1:13.52 Vs 1:14.74).
Drivers were Greg Crick and Luke Youlden.

So it is baffling that the STI is faster than the Golf R on so many other tests.

conspiracy theory I reckon. Having rounded up a new STI at QR on Saturday, my test says the R is king. QR as you know is a power track being a bunch of straights joined with a few turns and the STI did not have the legs to keep with me in a straight line nor catch it up under brakes.

this is review of the STI vs the golf R in the US, I don't agree with most of their opinions they sort of change their minds about what car they like the most is a bit strange, and then at the end the guy say the Golf needs a R buttom ? isn't that the Race mode? they say the STI is better than the R and then they say the R is the car for every day driving,I don't know how to describe this review definitely sit owners are going to like it. It is a long review judge by yourselves.
