Mk7 Golf DSG Gearbox Issues, Questions and Discussion

I've got the same issue on my car, MY16 GTI Performance. Same as what you explained and for me occurs about every 10 shifts in manual mode. Sometimes it happens twice in a row too. I've got a 034 torque mount I'm waiting to install so when I do I'll let you know if it changes anything.

Sorry to hear about the issues. Have you tried taking it back to the dealer to check?

If I recall correctly, my MY16 GTI would do the same from 1st to 2nd very early on... Drove me insane! After trying various things, I managed to replicate the issue. Basically, if auto stop-start was activated + the engine turns off while you're at a stand still, on restarting the shift would be harsh - guaranteed. The solution was to make sure stop-start was deactivated when in manual mode. Never had that problem since.

Not sure if it's the same issue you guys are experiencing but I thoughts it's worth sharing

Just got back from a drive and experienced it again, I can confirm it does happen after the engine stops and then starts while in manual; shifting between 1st and 2nd. Haven't driven long enough to see if it happens with stop-start off though. Strange that this happens. Has VW released anything on this at all? Or is it just something expected for our vehicles?

So, I can confirm what Danoman and Mikeau described, it happens after a restart from the stop - start system, and happens about 90% of the time in that circumstance.

Has anyone had any luck discussing this with VW?

Just drove a MY16 golf 92TSI DSG and found it was a completely different drive to my existing MY15 golf. It provided a smoother drive, was less clunky, had a lot less engine braking when applying brakes going downhill and also a lot less vibration at lower speed.
Have there been any changes between the DSG in the MY15 to the MY16? I've heard a rumor that they changed to wet clutches in the MY16 but I haven't seen that written/referenced anywhere. Have most of the DSG issues been ironed out in the MY16/MY17 models?

The 92TSI still uses the same 7-speed dry clutch DSG it did before. Although there may have been minor changes to part numbers and software/firmware versions of controllers, the gearboxes themselves should be otherwise identical. What you're describing is not unusual of the DSG - it can be quite susceptible to 'bad behaviour' depending on how it's driven/treated and can become recalcitrant over time.
