It would have been so hard for you not to look smug about it!! Would love to have seen it myself, Mr Commodore Sportswagon being pulled out of the tough stuff by 'that Skoda wagon thingy from Europe, bleh, wouldn't trust one with my money'... hahahaha as you say, GOLD!

Great Story CanberravRS. Hopefully next time he will listen to the wife come the next car purchase. He might even take the time to have a look at a Skoda himself before dismissing the brand so casually. I have seen some clips of the Superb in some off road scenarios and it seems to cope quite well which was certainly surprising to me any way. There was one or two clips that I was afraid to watch fearing that things might not well for the car that I just chosen to go with.
I have a few Ford fanboys as mates who have spent some time looking at Skoda's and are now finally thinking that there is some merit behind the build of the Skoda's. I'm sure as time goes by the quality of the Skoda's will win through. Adding The Fabia and Yeti to the line up of vehicles sold here can only do Skoda the world of good.
I would love for an Australian manufacturer to produce something like the Skoda vehicles but every time you walk into the show rooms I just can't fine anything that compares. Sure leave the Falcons and Commodores as they are but surely there must be room for other vehicles to be built other than having a big engine on a RWD drive chassis. I suppose we are lucky to have the choice of some impressive foreign brands.

I know this is an old thread but when I was looking for an AWD car to replace my Audi A4 quattro I became very confused ... Audi call all their AWD cars "quattro" but use 2 completely different drive trains without really telling anyone. Then I started looking at Subaru (not for long) as well as VW, Volvo and Skoda. Subaru lost out on interior trim and fit although the Liberty STi wagon was tempting to a point. The Volvo drove like a barge and had a turning circle larger than the roundabouts in Canberra. The Skoda finally won on price, equipment and finish. I am yet to "test" the AWD as the car is too newbut I once shredded 2 Michelin tyres on the Audi and never realised it until I stopped to admire the view at Bairds Bay in South Australia. Still got back to Streaky Bay OK which was more than you could have said for the Falcodore sport ute that ended up in deeeeep do do trying to keep up.
