Here is my 2 cents...

After owning many, many Passat's (B6, B7 & B8 variants - both sedans and wagons) I am more than happy with my ŠKODA Superb 206TSI 4x4.

I loved the diesel economy in the past and for your application it would certainly help with such high kms.

I never considered the 162TSI, I went straight to the 206TSI with the works...

Mind you I did not purchase new, mine was a dealer demo and that certainly helped with the parity of price between the two models.

As with every single VAG vehicle I have owned in the past, the "wheel hop" off the line in a FWD sucks...

The 206TSI is a weapon off the line, absolutely sure footed and NO WHEEL HOP!

Hence the claimed 0-100km/h of 5.8sec vs 7.0sec for the 162TSI (sedan) / 7.1sec for the wagon.
I have seen video and printed info of 5.4sec 0-100km/h and 13.7sec 0-400m (165.1km/h) being a more accurate figure.

I am sure that once they are both on the run (say 80 - 120km/h), they would likely be fairly similar.
My bet would still be on the 206TSI though...

Considerably bigger brakes and a Haldex 4x4 system should also be considered in this comparison.

Have you considered a VW Passat Alltrack?
The Subaru would not be on my shopping list...

I have no regrets with my ŠKODA Superb 206TSI 4x4...

Maybe you should over look the Sportline as it is just cosmetic and no change to the vehicle.
That might save you some money.

Oh, I have also had many wagons in the past.

The Sedan has a boot size of 625L and the wagon 661L - they are very similar!

Personally I loved the look of the Passat in a Wagon and not the Sedan.

However I love the Sedan in the Superb and not so the wagon... Go figure!!!
