Thread: MKV GTi Leather Lumbar Support not working

  1. #11

I had a similar failure in my car, but in my case the planetary gears failed with 2 of them broken and the 3rd damaged as a result. The plastic pulley was still ok albeit a little distorted.

Interesting that GMC's failed in a different mode, but lucky for him in that my planetary gears were still intact (Auspost has them now GMC). Another member - KFiddy - has had his fail, not sure how yet, and he has first dibs on the motor. I think he is also going to look into whether the L&R seats are the same. One thing I didn't realise is that the up/down and in/out motor are assymetrical for mounting on opposite sides of the seat, as well as having a different wire mech (it is the in/out motor that seems to fail).

    Thanks Al!!

All fixed today and good as new.

The only trouble was having to buy 100 rivets to use 3 out of the box...

K - GMC's motor failed differently to mine, so we were able to make a working one out of two broken ones.
If you need rivets to fasten your motor back up, GMC's your man. He has 97 spare!

    Glad it worked Kev,
from one order of the parts (totalling under $500) we have managed to fix the lumbar support on 3 cars. Something VW quoted me $1600 to fix mine. I'd say that is a win!

    Hi 99_FGT,

    I PMed you today.

My driver's seat makes clicky noise and doesn't move in all directions.

Is 1k0-881-879a part all I need, or do I need to order anything else for the repair?

Motor makes noise, but doesn't move as well as the passenger's seat.

How often do people really adjust the lumbar? Maybe I'm ignorant but I always have viewed lumbar as a set and forget feature. I certainly wouldn't spend 1k fixing it if it it broke, infact I had the leather seats in my gti retrofitted (out of another gti which was wrote off) because my car had the tartan from the factory it meant I didn't have the wiring for the electric lumbar or heated seats and I have not bothered getting the car wired up as I haven't missed either feature, nor has any one else who drives my car.
