I understand there's a need to keep a family resemblance but this Skoda front end looks positively last millennium

The back end looks even more dated.

Can't they add a bit more flair to it?

I agree, this looks so much like the earlier generation....not very progressive.

As the comment in the back of the topgear magazine says about skoda..."sooo 1990's in design"

At a glance the back end is very similar to the not so new C180, and C200 Mercs.

Hard to tell, but the sunroof looks squarer at the corners and perhaps a little wider. An optional panoramic roof on the new Octy
perhaps?
