    23lb per rim or 10.4kg ..... That seems decent for a 18 x 8.5" rim!

Edit: donweather beat me like a red headed step child......

The rims must be decent quality, the cheap rims I got for my commodore that were 18x8s were like 14kg each, but they were very cheap....

That's not bad for the size. I was just looking at a set of 18" Audi S4 rims on ebay and they appear to come in at 14-15kg (24kg with tyres) which I think is a bit porky.

Hmmm....I wish more people had put rims on their new octavia. Would be nice to know if 8.5's would fit without scrubbing.

EDIT: i'm guessing at ET45 they might....
Long term, i'd hope to put 235/40/18's on as they are way more common size and thus, cheaper. Might scrub with the 235's on there...worried the 225's will have the "stretch look" which I dont like

Would you like to be the guinea pig?

In term of stretch look, it depends on the tyre brand as well.

Back in the days, I used to put 265/30 profile tyre on 19 x 9 inch wide rim with very aggressive offset (ET25) on the rear for C-class W203 dumped on Carlsson Coil-over.
I went through three different brand. First is Yokohama, the sidewall is very square, problems with scrubbing most of the time. Then I went to Falken FK451, same profile, sidewall is quite stretched, zero scrubbing with this tyres. Lastly I went with Toyo, same profile, very rounded looking sidewall, only occasionally scrubs.

In case anyone wondering how low I ran, this is some photos of the car, good memories:

Those stretched tyres might be your best friend depending on the circumstances .

8.5" wide wheels will fit on the Octavia:
You will need to be careful with offset (may need ET40 but then you'll get steering issues)
Ian has 18x8.5 (225mm tyres with a noticeable stretch) - they do poke and give funny steering feedback (due to offset)
The poke can cause dirt to be sprayed down the body work
Lex had 235mm tyres (can't remember the rim size) and encountered guard rubbing
Matti also used 235mm (on 8" rims) and encountered some rear guard rubbing

I'm on 18*8 ET45 (no poke - looks natural) and there is ~12mm clearance between the rim and the front shock
Remember, it's common for the the MKV Golf guys to run ET35 (pulls the rim away from the shock)
(It's just that ET35 is a long way from the stock ET51, likely to feel funny and poke out)

Et35 and et45 are the available offsets on those vmr rims.

Edit: I'd prefer if et45 fit, so geometry is as close to stock as possible. Based on the spacer thread on briskoda, there shouldn't be an issue with et45 - people are reporting +10mm front and +15mm rear spacers having no clearance issues on lowered vehicles. That's a wider stance than a et45 rim, so as long as inside clearance is OK, they should be sweet. I think the guards/clearances are bigger on the mk3 than mk2

Standard Skoda steel 16's with Hankooks are only 16kg per wheel complete.
Might not provide the visual effect you are looking for though
Great for that poverty/ retro look. Security nuts not an option and not needed, curbing issues not a problem and easily fixed with mallet and screwdriver (and optional paint).
