    The first service

    Hi everyone,

I've got an Octavia 118TSI that's done about 6000km already. I'm pretty sure the dealer said I didn't need a first service until 20,000km but that seems a bit incredible. Just thought I'd get some trusted advice before I check with the dealer again.

Should the first service be at 10,000km / 1 year?

And the second question: I have a trusted mechanic Ive been using for years who said he could service my skoda. What do I need to be aware of in terms of keeping my warranty? He can use genuine parts etc. but is there a minimum that an official skoda service centre needs to do so that I can keep my warranty?

    cheers
    alex

It's 12mths/15k whichever comes first. You can get anyone to service it, all the required stuff is in the manual book about what needs to be done. I'd suggest getting the first service done at the dealer though in case there are any warranty items or niggles you want to ask about.

Having said all that personally I would not pay as much for a car that has been serviced somewhere random unless I really knew that mechanic. It depends whether you are keeping it short term or not though. I've seen the internal sheets that go back to SKoda as the dealer used to give them to me by accident when they first came into the country and there is a lot of stuff they check there that isn't in the manual nor in any VW/Audi service-they said SKoda were quite demanding for documentation compared to other VAG groups.

Cheers. Good advice. Ill get the first one at the dealers. But I'm dreading it. I've never had a good dealer service experience! I always feel ripped off.

Anyway it's not for 5 months so I'll report back

Just a hint; This 12months/15,000km should be from the production date and not from the time of first registration.

Yeah I've always wondered that, I got mine in Nov 2008 and it was built mid year complianced in Sept 08. I asked about that and they said due to the overkill of the oil quality 12mths/15k still stands. I even asked whether doing it at 7500/6mths was worth it and they pretty much told me not to bother.

My current car (Hyundai Santa Fe) was built Aug 2010, complianced mid last year and I bought it in Nov. They are happy to not service it until 12mths/15km, but have given me free 7500km service at 6mths.
