    crackling speakers

i've noticed that the speakers on the passenger front door occasionally crackles.

I thought it might be the crap quality of the MP3s i play but it isn't consistant with a particular song. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not.

NB: I use my HTC oneX phone as a source via a cable into the AUX port in the centre console bin. The HU is the original Audience unit. I have been considering upgrading to an RCD510 (whatever it is without NAV).

    a) How do you test a speaker?

    b) What's the replacement / upgrade path? I'm not an audiophile and consider the OEM speakers adequate for the job but if I can go a fraction better for reasonable money, I'm happy to do so.

Not sure if its an issue on the RCD310 units but on the RNS510 you need to lower the Aux input level from High/Medium to Low for most devices. Its been ages since ive used a 310 so perhaps have a look in its manual to see if it mentions it.

    On occasions - yes.

Doesn't surprise me if they've gone pop after 5 years

I think it's on medium. High just sounded tinny / wrong
