V checker

Hi all,
When I bought my Bora it came with a v-checker but i cant seem to get it to connect to the car. Ive plugged it in and turned the ignition to on like the instruction booklet says but i cant seem to get it to connect to the ECU. Ive also tried my dads OBDII which is tried and tested on his car (not VW tho). Is there any particular sequence of things I have to do? Im new to all this fault code thing. Any help would be much appreciated

Hey Josh,
v checker into the obd port
ignition on, but not started
v checker does a quick startup and then you should be given a menu. no other tricks.
Do any information come up on the screen at all?

Thanks stan, I get the options for engine, emissions etc etc but as soon as i select one it says connecting.... and then says error connecting.
