Tricks for getting a front strut into the wheel hub/bearing housing?

    Hi all,

As the title suggests, Im having difficulties getting a set of front bora 4mo struts to fully fit into the bottom wheel bearing mount. I get the strut about half way down and then it gets stuck. My coils slide in nice but stock struts are not wanting to get in.

Anyone have any tips, tricks or tools to help seat the strut fully in the bottom mount/wheel hub?

I've tried heavily greasing up the surfaces, mounting the strut to the car and then pushing the bearing assembly up into the strut using a jack (so tight it started lifting the car), usual array of hammering, using a prybar to try and expand the opening on the hub, and even some quick grips to try and pull the strut into the mount. I have removed the strut from the springs and top mount as well.

Running out of ideas. I really hope I don't have to go through the hell of trying to remove the hub.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

You need to spread the opening on the hub, there is a special tool for it but a 3/8" socket adaptor can work. Bang it in the slot in the back, then turn 90degrees with the ratchet to open it a few mm.

Yep, as above, you can also use a large flat head hex bit.

I used an 8mm shafted bolt & ground a couple of flats on it to fit in the slot. Turn 90 degrees & the hub opens & the damper slides in.

Yep without the OEM Tool or DIY as described this can give you a headache for sure. "Brad" is onto a good DYI though.....
