The best reason for going to a single mass is the larger diameter plate you fit. The VR6 clutch is easy to get hold of too.
The single mass does make the drivetrain shunt a bit, when going on and off the throttle.
I would only go SM if you need the extra clamping force because you have got more than a stage 1 chip. ie You have fitted a bigger turbo. I think in a MK4 a std clutch would be ok with up to 230 crank HP. Unless you drive like a complete Muppet, it should last several years of driving easily.
