Its a feature to easily adjust the mirrors for different driving positions, not a flaw. If you dont want it to happen then do the drivers first and then the passenger side. If the drivers mirror moves when your doing the passenger side then that is a flaw, if the passenger doesnt move when you do the drivers side then the feature has been disabled/wasnt available in the first place or there is something wrong. At least this is my understanding of it

Mine seems to be a little different...

If after turning on the ignition, I adjust the drivers mirror, the passenger one will adjust too, and then passenger will only move itself...
If after turning on the ignition, I adjust the passengers mirror, just the passenger one move, and then the drivers will only move itself...

I need to do more testing, but that's just what I've noticed... (Either that, or dual operation was broken and now works... lol)

    Something I noticed today ...
Was driving a rental today, a Skoda Octavia (which is a close cousin of the Bora/Jetta) and noticed it's mirrors moved together. However after playing with the onboard computer I found an option to change this to independent movement. So clearly there is provision in the car's brain to change this behaviour to suit personal preference.

My only problem is how do I change this on my 04 Bora?

those of you talking about hidden unmarked switch positions by turning to 12 o'clock etc...

    don't do it!

you're just forcing the switch past the stopper inside. it isn't a secret position, and if you keep doing it you will break the switch!

...or maybe I just don't want you guys to find out what it really does.

    Thanks.

I made my comment based on my memory of the switch. On mine (a Mk5 golf) there is a marked position at about 10 o'clock (not 12, sorry). The symbol there looks like one you'd see for a heat setting. So on mine at least I'd say that's the mirror heat position, but I'd have to check to manual to confirm.

    Cheers

on mine i have left at about 7 o'clock, 9 o'clock is the heater, and 11 o'clock is right (which controls both mirrors)

my mirror heaters are long burnt out though i think, probably from being left in the middle position at some stage. vw should really have put a timer on the heater circuit.
